I’m writing in response to Don Levesque’s letter to the editor of Nov. 10.

I believe that Mr. Rhoades (column, Nov.7) need not apologize for expressing his opinion on the re-election of President Bush. I believe that Mr. Rhoades was right on target and may have been expressing the sentiments of probably many of the 48 percent of Americans who voted for John Kerry. I believe, like Mr. Rhoades, that President Bush has led and is leading this great nation of ours on a “morally reprehensible path,” to quote his words.

Mr. Levesque should know that God created us with a free will. Some of us make good decisions, while others make poor ones. It seems to me that our responsibility is to educate rather than impose our moral values on our fellow citizens. Jesus is a loving, compassionate, understanding and forgiving Lord. Who are we to judge?

If an apology is owed, it is to the servicemen and women as well as the many civilians who have and are losing their lives in a war based on a false premise, to the many elderly and sick who must choose between medication or food, to those who work and yet still struggle to make ends meet, to those losing jobs through outsourcing, to those who are discriminated against because of their lifestyle and/or beliefs.

It is to them that the 51 percent should say, “I’m sorry.”
