The Maine Turnpike Authority will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, in City Council Chambers at Auburn Hall. The new E-ZPass electronic toll collection system and future capital improvement plans will be among the agenda items.
The Turnpike Authority holds at least two monthly meetings each year in communities directly served by the highway, said Turnpike Executive Director Paul E. Violette.
“It’s healthy for us to get a local perspective,” he said.

Sabattus: Giving Tree applications due
The town of Sabattus and the Salvation Army will display a Giving Tree in the municipal building, where local residents can contribute to a family’s Christmas wish list and help them enjoy the holidays.
Giving Tree Project applications are located at the town building and must be submitted to Town Office before Wednesday.
Selectman Steve Wood said any help is greatly appreciated and that those wishing to help must have their contributions in before Dec. 22.
“It is important that we receive the applications back as quickly as possible because the wish-list items are distributed to those wanting to help the weekend after Thanksgiving,” Wood said.

Lewiston: City Council cancels meeting
City councilors agreed this week to cancel their Dec. 21 meeting because the date is so close to Christmas. The council will hold its regular meeting on Dec. 7.
