RANGELEY – The police chief credited parents with coming forth to help solve a burglary at the school.

The Rangeley Lakes Regional School was broken into two weeks ago and about $5,000 in computer equipment, including nine Palm Pilots, was taken. But a majority of the items were left in three trash bags outside the school, and other items were returned later after students were questioned.

Three 15-year-old Rangeley boys were charged with burglary in the case.

Weymouth said the boys’ parents helped police finally get to the bottom of the case and solve the burglary.

The burglary was being investigated by officer Mary-Ellen Michaud and Weymouth. Franklin County Sheriff’s Detective Tom White also assisted in the case, Weymouth said.

The boys’ plan was to keep the computer equipment that wasn’t initially returned and sell it on eBay six months later, Weymouth said.
