OXFORD – The first Albert Rice Memorial Scholarship from Oxford County Farm Bureau has been awarded to Sarah and Emily Carter, daughters of Anne and David Carter of Oxford.
Sarah is a senior at University of Maine in Orono majoring in English. Emily is a junior at the University of Southern Maine in Portland as an art major. They each received $250.
The scholarship will be awarded each year to a college student whose family belongs to Farm Bureau.
Albert Rice was a hardworking dairy farmer and farm bureau member for many years who valued education.
Farm Bureau is a grass roots organization that gives farmers a voice in law making concerning agriculture and other Maine issues that affect the farmer.
Emily and Sarah Carter grew up on a vegetable farm in Oxford. They are the seventh generation of a farming family in Oxford County.
