PARIS – A 20-year-old Old Orchard Beach woman is facing manslaughter and drunken driving charges for a Lovell crash that burned a passenger to death.

Christina L. Bailey of Williams Street was indicted Friday by the Oxford County grand jury on one count of manslaughter, two counts of felony criminal operating under the influence, and one count of driving to endanger.

Bailey was living in Limerick on Aug. 2 when she and three friends were headed to meet others at a gravel pit on the Old Waterford Road around 1 a.m. She lost control of the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup, which hit a large oak tree, Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland.

Bailey and two passengers, a 15-year-old girl and Cory Allen, 18, both of Lovell, were able to get out of the truck, but Chester Allen, 23, of Lovell, was pinned inside by a crushed roof. Attempts to free him were unsuccessful, McCausland said.

Shortly after the crash, the truck caught fire, preventing further rescue attempts, McCausland said.

Bailey, Cory Allen and the girl were treated at area hospitals.

Bailey is expected to be arraigned next month in Oxford County Superior Court. Her case will be on the trial list for 2005.
