LEWISTON – John J. Olehowski, 82, of 140 Ash St., Lewiston, died Thursday evening, Nov. 18, at D’Youville Pavilion following a lingering illness.

He was born in Lewiston on Aug. 5, 1922, the son of John and Pauline (Portyka) Olehowski and had been a resident of this community all of his life.

He was educated in Lewiston schools and had been employed as a loom-fixer at the Bates Mill from 1947 until his retirement in 1986.

He married to Laura Montigny on Aug. 2, 1946, and she died on Dec. 23, 1979.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Battery A 198th Antiaircraft Artillery Battalion in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church, the American Legion and the Eagles Club.

He enjoyed walking, following the Red Sox, following his grandchildren’s sporting activities, and watching game shows.

He is survived by two sons, Timothy Olehowski and his wife, Heidi, of Lewiston, and Frank Olehowski and his companion, Linda Swift, of Gray; one daughter, Angie Kelso and her husband, Jon, of Peaks Island; three brothers, Stanley Olehowski and his wife, Theresa, Paul Olehowski and his wife, Anita, and Thomas Olehowski, all of Lewiston; two sisters, Anne Letham, of Ada, Okla., and Nellie McNally and her husband, James, of Charlotte, N.C.; six grandchildren, Lalania Mandeville, Torr Kelso, Nadia, Dustin, Drew, and Luke Olehowski; three great-grandchildren, Nolan and Ivy Bateman, and Henry Mandeville; and several nieces and nephews.
