Phones collected

AUBURN – Residents of Maine have been donating their old, unused cell phones, while supporting a good cause at the same time. U.S. Cellular has initiated the Community Action Recycling Effort program, collecting more than 1,500 old cell phones throughout northern New England in the past five months.

Through the program, donated phones are sold to a company that specializes in restoring, refurbishing and reselling wireless phones. Proceeds from the donated phones will benefit the Maine Coalition to End Domestic Violence.

U.S. Cellular is continuing the program through the end of the year. It is open to all wireless consumers. Residents can go to any local U.S. Cellular store or exclusive agent location to donate their retired wireless phones.

For more information on the coalition, people can visit www.mcedv.org. For more information, or to find a nearby U.S. Cellular location, visit www.uscellular.com.
