BUCKFIELD – Town Manager Glen Holmes told selectmen Tuesday night that the town has a $7,000 grant to handle old fluorescent lights, mercury switches and computer monitors.
The money would pay for an addition to the waste station next spring.
Holmes said he and Bill Butler, the town’s inspector from the Department of Environmental Protection, viewed the waste transfer station Tuesday, and Butler found that it was basically running well. Holmes is recommending that the addition be placed at the rear of the present building with its own entrance.
The station takes computer monitors, which are weighed with bulky waste, but not the lights and switches. Holmes said he hopes to save money by taking the computers out of the bulky waste.
Holmes said legislation was recently passed to have the cost of computer disposal borne by the manufacturers.
