NEW SHARON – Charles F. “Chuck” Collins, 82, of New Sharon, died Thursday, Nov. 25, at his home in New Sharon.
He was born April 1, 1922, in Stratton, the son of Jean F. and Pearl F. Potter Collins. He was educated in the schools of Stratton and Farmington.
He married Edna Thomas in Farmington on July 15, 1946. She died June 12, 2000.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the United States Army. After the war, he worked as a lumberman for Jack Adams in New Vineyard for more than 17 years. For many years during the summer, he worked for the Farmington Cemetery Corp. He also worked for 12 years as a grounds custodian for S.A.D. 9, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of the American Legion, Roderick Crosby Post #28, of Farmington. He was also a member of the Knights of Pithias of Farmington. He enjoyed singing and yodeling for residents of local nursing homes, along with hunting, fishing, and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include two daughters, Betty Raymond and her husband, Randy, of Merrimack, N.H., and Kathy Kenney and her husband, David, of Sabattus; two sons, Frank Collins and his wife, Sherry, of Henniker, N.H., and Bernard “Buddy” Collins and his wife, Bonnie, of New Sharon; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters, Virginia Gould of Florida, and Helen Delarou of Indiana; one brother, Fred Collins of Bath; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 54 years; two brothers, Wendell “Rip” and Bob Collins; and one sister, Jean Moore.
