LEWISTON – A 14-year-old girl was hurt Friday afternoon when she was struck by a taxicab while trying to cross Main Street in afternoon traffic.

Police said the teen suffered broken bones and a possible head injury when she was knocked to the street about 2:15 p.m.

The victim’s identity was not available Friday night. Investigators described her wounds as serious but not life-threatening. The girl was being treated at Central Maine Medical Center, a short distance from the scene of the crash, Friday night.

Police said the teen was trying to run through traffic near Main and Sabattus streets when she was struck by the City Cab driven by 41-year-old David Weymouth.

Weymouth was not hurt in the wreck. The crash remained under investigation Friday night, with police Officer Robert Dionne heading the probe.
