ORONO – Maine snapped a season opening three-game losing streak with an impressive 72-54 win over Loyola in women’s basketball action Friday.
The Black Bears (1-3) went 16-of-30 in field goals and 100 percent from the line on six attempts in the first half to take a 39-25 lead at the midpoint.
Meskhenet Lands recorded the game-high 15 points for Loyola (1-2), and Ciara Henderson notched three of eight three-point attempts for nine tallies in the loss.
Missy Traversi and Monica Peterson posted team-leading 14 points apiece for Maine, while Abby Schrader chipped in with 10 points from the bench.

Bates 75, John Jay 51
BOSTON, Mass. – The Bobcats performed with great depth as Bates College secured a 75-51 victory over John Jay College to remain undefeated in men’s basketball action Friday.
Rob Stockwell recorded a double-double for the Bobcats (4-0) with 16 points and 13 rebounds. Eight different non-starters put points on the board, including Bryan Wholey with 10 on three field-goals and four-of-four from the line.
James Clark notched the game-high 17 points for the Bloodhounds (0-3) in the loss.
