PARIS – Jane Ann Whalen Bowman, 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, Nov. 27.

She was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Paterson, N.J. to Dr. William and Ethel Clegg Whalen. She attended local schools through high school. She then attended and graduated from Montclair State Teachers College. She then worked for the Harry Conover modeling agency in New York City until her marriage to William H. Bowman in 1946.

She later did substitute teaching until she was asked to take the first class in Special Education in Allendale, N.J. She did so while taking courses towards an advanced degree at William Paterson College. She had to give up teaching due to health problems and in 1979 she and her husband retired to Paris. An exceptional teacher, Girl Scout leader, favorite aunt and very special Mom.

She is survived by her best friend, her husband of 58 years; daughters, Marci of Paris, Gail Mazzeo and husband, Dave of Norway and Bonita Springs, Fla.; grandson, Joad H. Bowman and wife, Sarah of Conn.; granddaughters, Arianne Miller and husband, Michael of Conn. and Megan Bowman of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. and four great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a son, John H. Bowman, III and her sister, Mary Whalen. She was a warm, caring and kindly person and we all will miss her.
