LISBON – The School Committee will host a public workshop at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the high school gymnasium to discuss a proposal to form a community school district with Durham. The proposal would include building a jointly owned high school for grades nine to 12.
A plan submitted by the Community School District Advisory Committee has been accepted by the School Committee and will be voted on in a special three-question referendum Dec. 14.
In a summary to the school board, the advisory committee has recommended:
• That the district be named the Lisbon-Durham Community School District.
• That the district school committee be composed of five elected members from each town, with weighted votes according to town populations.
• That cost-sharing formula beyond essential programs and services be based 100 percent on actual per pupil costs, as determined by state law, which includes a combination of town valuation and student population.
• That towns be responsible for determining the method of cost-sharing for additional costs, and which of those would have to be voted on by the towns.
