JAY – The Jay/Livermore Falls Rotary Club members recently planted the first permanent Christmas tree for the annual Spirit of the Season Christmas Tree Lighting and Parade. It will be held Saturday, Dec. 4, at Union Park.

The event begins with a parade at 5:45 p.m., with special entertainment and refreshments provided.

The tree was donated by Ray Ouellette of Franklin Road. Rotary Club members Gordie Flint, Barbara Cook and Carol and Frank Picard worked with Ouellette to dig up the 8-foot spruce fir and replant the tree in Union Park in front of Androscoggin Bank.

“We are happy to have a permanent tree now so that everyone in town can see the tree grow every year and know that it is related to our “Coats For Kids” Christmas program,” said Cook, the Rotary Club president.

Individuals or businesses are welcome to donate $5 to light a bulb on the tree in honor of or memory of a loved one. Donations may be given to Debbie Farmer at Androscoggin Bank. All funds collected from this fund-raiser are used to buy coats for area children.
