He was a member of the Schooner Estates Retirement Community in Auburn for one year, and had spent the last four months at d’Youville Pavilion in Lewiston.

He was born in Lewiston, Jan. 22, 1931, the son of Hermidas and Liane Gilbert Marquis. He lived in this community all of his life.

He was married on April 7, 1956, to Germaine Landry. He was employed at the Lewiston Sun-Journal for close to 50 years. The majority of that time was spent working in the press room. In retirement, he worked as a greeter at Wal-Mart for seven years.

Roger volunteered his time at the Holy Family Booster club, helping organize the annual winter carnival. Roger and his wife, Germaine, were involved for 10 years as CYO advisers and had many fond memories.

The Marquises were also involved with the Search Program and Engaged Encounter for 10 years, and were also Eucharistic Ministers at Holy Family for many years.

He was also a man of many talents. He built a family camp on Sabattus Lake in the early 1960s. He also finished and renovated two homes. Roger was known as a jack-of-all-trades, as he could do carpentry, plumbing and electrical work.

He is survived by his wife, Germaine, of Auburn; three children, Dan of Lewiston, the Rev. Paul of Westbrook, and Kathy Cyr of Freeport; and one granddaughter, Michelle Marquis of Lewiston.

Also surviving are his sister Joyce Clark and her husband, Tom, of Lake Worth, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews from Maine and Florida. He also leaves behind his beloved dogs Pandy, Suki, and Sophie, who reside with his son, Paul, in Westbrook.
