AUBURN – City officials plan plenty of pomp and circumstance for the City Council inauguration Monday.

The event will mix holiday music, color guards and local politics. It’s scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Monday in Fairview School gymnasium, 397 Minot Ave.

City Clerk Mary Lou Magno said the decision to put the event in the school again this year was simple. No other venue in Auburn has space available.

“It would have been nice to use Auburn Hall, but we could not have had the band and all of the other events,” Magno said. “There just wasn’t room anywhere else.”

Milt Simon and the Auburn Community Band will provide musical entertainment.

“We have to have the band,” she said. “I think everyone enjoys having the traditional music. It really is part of the occasion.”

The New Auburn American Legion Post Color Guard will present the flag, the Rev. Frank Murray will give the invocation and Rabbi Hillel Katzer will give the benediction. Light refreshments will be served after the ceremony.
