DIXFIELD – Members of the Dixfield Road Advisory Committee are to meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, in the town office. Agenda topics include discussions on Maine’s new road standards and new road surface management system software.

Decorating contest slated

RUMFORD – Judging will take place between Dec. 13 and Dec. 17 for the annual Christmas in the Valley Home and Business Decorating Contest.

Judging will be based on best overall Christmas display. There will be no decorating theme this year, organizers said.

In the home decorating contest, prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place. The business decorating contest winner gets a traveling trophy.

Entries must be submitted by today. Entry forms are available at the River Valley Chamber of Commerce, 60 Lowell St., Rumford.

Hoop Shoot set this Saturday

RUMFORD – The Rumford Lodge of Elks will host its annual Hoop Shoot contest Saturday, Dec. 11, at Mountain Valley High School. Registration will be from 8 to 9 a.m. with the shoot-off starting at 9 a.m.

There are three age categories for girls and boys: ages 8 and 9; ages 10 and 11; and ages 12 and 13. Anyone 13 years old until April 1, 2005 is eligible. The winners of each division will go to the regional competition, with the opportunity to go to the state and national competitions in Springfield, Mass., if they continue winning.

A parent and or legal guardian needs to be present with, and a copy of a birth certificate will be needed.

Bicentennial events planned

MEXICO – The Citizens Advisory Board is inviting people interested in participating in the Mexico portion of Oxford County’s bicentennial to attend a 6 p.m. meeting today, at the Calvin Lyons Hall of the town office.

Board Chairwoman Louise Arsenault said volunteers are needed to plan events, including activities for May 25 when a horseback rider from Boston will deliver the county’s charter to the town.

ATV club meeting held this week

MEXICO – The River Valley Riders ATV club will meet at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Mexico Chicken Coop.

Executive session scheduled

DIXFIELD – Selectmen are to meet at 4:30 p.m. today in the town office to conduct an executive session on a personnel issue.

It is not known if the board intends to make a decision after the session.
