JAY – Police arrested two area residents in separate incidents in connection with assaults.
Denise Grant, 25, of Farmington was arrested Friday on a charge of domestic assault, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.
Police responded to a reported domestic dispute at 17 Lavoie St. that alleged a male subject was attempting to remove a child from a home.
Upon investigation, White said, it was the discovered that it was a custody dispute between a young child’s parents and the child had been living with the father.
While police were investigating the matter, White said, the mother of the child allegedly assaulted the father as he tried to leave with the child.
White was assisted at the scene by Livermore Falls police officer Brock Caton.
Grant was transported to the Franklin County jail, and the father took the child home. Grant, who posted $3,000 in bail Friday, is scheduled to appear in Farmington District Court on Jan. 26.
In a separate domestic dispute, Sgt. Charles Keene arrested Michael Champion, 30, of Jay on Nov. 30 at 6 Tweedie St. on a charge of domestic assault, White said.
White said Champion was found in a house hiding in the cellar in a dirt pile, was taken into custody by officer Dean Couture.
Bail was set at $1,000 cash or a $10,000 piece of real estate, White said. Champion was still at the jail Monday.
