FARMINGTON – A Colorado man who is accused of assaulting a Franklin County sheriff’s deputy in October was indicted on several charges Monday.
Vance G. Billings, 28, of Minturn, Colo., was indicted on one count each for these charges: assault on an officer, refusing to submit to arrest and disorderly conduct.
Billings allegedly punched and kicked Deputy Sandy Burke after the deputy responded to a complaint of a vehicle damaging lawns in Carthage about 5 p.m. Oct. 1. Burke found an unoccupied vehicle and confronted Billings, who initiated an “unprovoked physical assault,” Sheriff Dennis Pike said at the time.
Billings grabbed Burke, punched him and kicked him several times after the officer hit the ground, Pike said then.
When Burke called for backup, Dixfield and Wilton officers and county Deputy Heidi Gould and Cpl. Stephen Charles responded.
Burke sustained facial cuts and bruises, the sheriff said.
