FARMINGTON – The Farmington-Wilton Chamber of Commerce is collecting canned goods and nonperishable food items for holiday gift baskets.

Chamber members collected food last year, board member Michael Blanchet said, and were able to give out six food baskets to people who needed them. Blanchet recalled the reaction of one child last year when Chamber members delivered a basket. The child excitedly told the members it was the most food the family had ever had in its house, Blanchet said.

Chamber members have been asked to take at least two food items to Thursday night’s meeting.

During that meeting, the members will consider changing the Chamber’s name to the Franklin County Chamber of Commerce. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Homestead Bakery on Front Street in Farmington.

Blanchet said that last year the Chamber’s office at the Little Red Schoolhouse on Wilton Road was filled to the ceiling with food. The organization hopes to do the same thing this year, he said.

Donations will be accepted until Monday, Dec. 20, and may be dropped off at the Chamber office between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.
