BETHEL – Auditions for the Children’s Stage Adventures production of “Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 13, at the Crescent Park School Gymnasium.

Approximately 50 local children, grades kindergarten through 5, will be cast to appear in the show with the group’s professional actor-educators. There is no guarantee that everyone who auditions will be cast; however, a chorus will also accompany the performance.

The performances will take place at Crescent Park School at 2 and 7 p.m. on Dec. 18, 2004.

“Shakespeare’s Midsummer Dream” is a musical adaptation of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream.” It has been written to be performed by 50 children.

When four friends run away from their problems at home they end up in an even bigger mess in an enchanted forest, inhabited by fairies, sprites and magic flowers. The madness gets even more mixed up when local workmen, practicing a play for the Duke’s wedding, stumble into the forest. Mistaken identity and mischievous practical jokes add to the laughs.

Children planning to audition should arrive by the scheduled starting time and plan to stay for the entire two-hour session. No advanced preparation is necessary.

Rehearsals will be conducted from 3 to 7:30 p.m. every day of the week prior to performances. Although not all cast members will be needed at every session, those auditioning must have a clear schedule for the entire week. A detailed rehearsal schedule will be distributed at the conclusion of the auditions.

Cast members scheduled to rehearse for the full four hours in one day will be asked to bring a bag meal or snack.

The first rehearsal will begin about 30 minutes after the auditions. Approximately 15 children will need to stay for this important first rehearsal. A light meal should be sent with your child in case they are staying for this first rehearsal.

Children’s Stage Adventures is a nonprofit organization based in Sullivan, N.H., supported in part by charitable donations. Aubrey Tighe and Mike Cyr will be the tour actor-educators.

The Bethel, Andover and Woodstock parent-teacher associations make the residency at Crescent Park School possible.
