SOUTH PARIS – Stanley C. “Jumbo” Jonaitis, 89, of Dixfield, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, at the Maine Veterans Home in South Paris where he had been a resident since 2001.
Jumbo was born in Rumford, May 8, 1915, a son of Frank and Barbara (Kalenauska) Jonaitis. He attended local schools and helped work on his family farm in Rumford.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during Worl War II.
On Oct. 2, 1948, he married Hilda W. Comeau in Rumford. She died in August of 1971.
He later remarried, July 15, 1975, to Jeannette (Landry) Hudon in Mexico. She died in August of 1999.
He worked in the Color Plant at Oxford Paper Co. for over 33 years, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of the local VFW Post and was a 50-year member of the American Legion Post 24.
He is survived by a son and stepchildren.
He was predeceased by a sister, Julia A. McArthur.
