SCARBOROUGH – Volunteer greeters, screeners, tax preparers and computer “techies” are needed for the AARP Tax-Aide Program.
In locations throughout the state, volunteers work together to help low- to middle-income taxpayers with free preparation of their federal and state income tax returns. Volunteers are especially needed in the Lewiston-Auburn area.
Individuals who usually prepare their own tax returns are good candidates to be return preparers. Greeter and screener volunteers should enjoy meeting and working with the public. Persons with computer expertise would assist other volunteers in trouble shooting problems encountered with tax software and computers.
Training is provided in January, with actual return preparation done from Feb. 1 through April 15. Volunteers of all ages are encouraged to become involved.
To volunteer or for more information, call Joan Jagolinzer, state coordinator, at 883-8415.
