LEWISTON – Susan A. Lewis went to her heavenly rest on Saturday, Dec. 11.
She was born Feb. 17, 1917, to Millard Ellis and Annie Curtis Ellis in Sidney.
She was married to George Hagerup and Calvin A. Lewis who both predeceased her.
One of Susan’s greatest accomplishments was at age 62, when she received her graduation diploma from Cony High School.
She loved traveling and flew many times to visit children and grandchildren in other states, including Minnesota, Kentucky, and Florida. She enjoyed traveling, also by RV with her sister Marion Real’s children to various places out of state.
She lived many years in Oakland. She moved to Manchester and Augusta. She lived 18 years at Heritage Court in Auburn where she had many friends.
She worked for the state at the Augusta Mental Health Institute from 1963 to 1983.
Survivors include Angie Jipson and family, Lila Veilleux and family, Roger and Izzy Sander and family, Arthur and Janice Lewis and family, Lou Shank and family, Philip and Rita Lewis and family, and Rick and Lulrine Duperry and family. Many nieces, nephews and friends also survive.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husbands; a son, Melvin Lewis Sr.; three sons who died at birth; Judith Ellis Bushaw, whom she raised as a daughter; four granddaughters, Sarah Holly Lewis, Suzanne Jean Duperry, Sheree Bushaw, and Michelle (Shelley) Veilleux Bergeron; her siblings, Luther Ellis and Marion Real, Wesley Lanpher, Carroll Lanpher and William Lanpher.
