PORTLAND – Mildred Kyllikki McCafferty, 86, formerly of Woodmere Road and 75 State St., died Sunday at Cedars.

She was born in Norwood, Mass. on July 8, 1918, graduating from Portland High School in 1936 and from the Maine Eye and Ear Infirmary School of Nursing in 1939.

She had worked for Maine and Ear until its closing and than worked for a brief time at the Maine Medical Center. She was a private duty nurse for 20 years, working at several area nursing homes.

She had been a communicant of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church.

She is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Errol (Christina) Beckwith of Norway, Mrs. Dan (Joanne) Lounsbury Sr. of Rumford, and Lisa Hutchison of Austin, Texas; two sisters, Mirja Farrell of California, and Mrs. Timothy (Helen) Gearty of New Jersey; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Her husband, Francis R. McCafferty, died in 1997; her son, Bruce McCafferty, died in 1988; and a grandson, William Hutchison III, died in 1993.
