BINGHAM – Dorothy Rebecca Connors Giberson, 86, died Monday, Dec. 13, at the Somerset Rehabilitation & Living Center in Bingham.

She was born in Houlton, on April 12, 1918, the daughter of Thomas M. and Ina Louetta Connors. She graduated from York Village High School and Farmington Normal School.

She moved to Bingham in 1939 where she taught in the public elementary schools for several years. She then married Donald A. Giberson in 1941. They raised two nieces, Doris Ritchie and Carol Moore, as their own.

In 1948, she accepted a position as payroll clerk at the Allen Quimby Veneer Mill in Bingham, retiring from that position in 1974. Following retirement, she remained very active in church and community service.

She was a communicant of St. Peter’s Catholic Church. She served in the Altar Guild and sang in the church choir. She also served many years on the Bingham Area Health Council Board of Directors, and on the planning board for the Bingham Area Health Center. Both she and her husband were active members of the Bingham Grange.

As chairwoman for the “Community Christmas Cheer,” she and Don helped purchase, pack, and deliver food boxes to the needy. They also volunteered at the local nursing home’s activity dept., helping residents play bingo and accompanying them on shopping trips and picnics. They both delivered meals on wheels to area residents.

In 2003, both were honored at the State House by the Maine Health Care Association in recognition of a lifetime spent in volunteer service to family, community, state and country.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Donald A. Giberson; two special nieces, Doris Franklin, and her husband Paul of Bingham, and Carol Kiernan of Bingham; a sister, Thelma Doane of Laconia, N.H., and numerous other nieces, nephews and in laws.
