NEWRY – The Black Diamond Family Entertainment Series is presenting the Fred Garbo Inflatable Theater Company at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 27, in the grand ballroom of the Grand Summit Resort Hotel at Sunday River Ski Resort. Sign-ups for CPR

RUMFORD – A CPR and first aid course will be offered from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, downstairs at the Public Library. Reservations are required and may be made by calling 364-7373. The class will be limited to eight people. The cost is $12.50 for club members, or $40 for nonmembers. If more than eight people are interested, another class will be held with a minimum of four people.

Preparing for bee

MEXICO – Mountain Valley Middle School students will compete in the first round of the 2005 National Geography Bee at 11:40 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12, in the lecture hall at the school at 58 Highland Terrace. The winner will advance to the next level of competition, a written examination. The national competition will be May 24 and 25 in Washington.

The contest is sponsored by the National Geographic Society.
