RUMFORD – The SAD 43 board is expected to take up the resignation of its special services director, set up an ad hoc committee to study a possible high school addition, and meet in a closed session to evaluate the superintendent Monday.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the library of Mountain Valley High School.

Superintendent Jim Hodgkin said Paige Coville, special services director, has resigned, effective Dec. 31. She has taken a position in the Millinocket area as middle school principal and special education director. She has served SAD 43 for nearly six years.

Hodgkin said high school Principal Bruce Lindberg and physical education teacher Todd Papiano are expected to make a presentation about a possible addition to Mountain Valley High School where physical education equipment may be housed and used. The addition would be funded by a federal grant given to SAD 43 and SAD 21.

Hodgkin said tentative plans call for constructing the building without using district funds. An ad hoc committee is expected to be established to look into the project.

Other agenda items include two resignations, three appointments, committee reports, and a discussion of proposed legislation that addresses funding for schools statewide that are required to take part in the Essential Programs and Services mandate.

Residents will also have a chance to ask questions or make comments on the district’s tentative proposal to change the use of Virginia Elementary School.

A closed session to discuss Hodgkin’s evaluation and contract is scheduled at the end of the meeting.
