MEXICO – Selectmen are expected to act on a resolution that could reduce the town’s county taxes paid for police coverage. The board will also hold a public hearing on a Federal Emergency Management Agency pre-disaster plan that would allow the town to take part in a grant process.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the town office.

Board Chairman Arthur Bordeau said selectmen will act on a resolution which, if adopted by the state Legislature, would allow towns with their own police departments to pay less in support of the Oxford County Sheriff’s Department. The resolution also supports legislation that would allow a town to dissolve its police department, then be one of the county’s towns to help pay for the support of the Sheriff’s Department.

Other agenda items include a discussion that would add additional towns to the Fire Department’s mutual aid agreement, and an update on the creation of a junior firefighters program.

Bordeau said a decision may be made to reconfigure the interior of the town office, which would change the current agreement with the water district.

Several public hearings for junkyard and trailer park license renewals will be held before the regular meeting. At the end of the public session of the meeting, a closed-door meeting is scheduled to discuss a Police Department personnel issue.
