AVON – A mobile home on Avon Valley Road was destroyed by fire Saturday afternoon.
Cyrus Bachelder and his wife were in a garage, away from the trailer, when the fire started, Phillips Assistant Fire Chief Guy Hudson said.
No one was injured, he said.
About 25 firefighters from Phillips and Strong responded to the 3:33 p.m. fire call, Phillips firefighter Ann Hudson said.
The family had no insurance, she said. The family’s dog was outside, she added.
No one knows for sure how the fire started, Guy Hudson said.
One of the things that firefighters were told, Hudson said, was that the cause could have possibly been cooking oil left on the stove.
The Bachelders’ older-style house trailer was about a 1.5 miles up from Route 4, he said.
Flames were showing and the trailer was pretty much engulfed when firefighters arrived on the scene Saturday, Hudson said.
Water was shuttled from a hydrant at Avon Valley Road and Hare Street.
