FARMINGTON – Town officials decided at their meeting last week to join many others across the state who are participating in Operation Community Support.

The program, initiated by former University of Maine basketball coach Thomas “Skip” Chappelle, was created to demonstrate support for Maine’s deployed military personnel and their families.

A large yellow ribbon was placed on the town office’s Christmas tree to symbolize this support. Residents are welcome to add their own yellow ribbons to the five-foot tree. If there are too many, Town Manager Richard Davis said the overflow will be put on trees outside the municipal building.

Davis said he heard about the program from a Maine Municipal Association mailing list when Brewer’s town manager wrote to tell others about it.
