AMANDA MARIE MICHAUD, A SOPHOMORE MAJORING IN ECONOMICS AND MATHEMATICS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER, HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE TOP FRESHMEN FOR THE 2003-2004 ACADEMIC YEAR AND HAS RECEIVED THE IOTA BOOK AWARD.

SHE AND 17 OTHER STUDENTS WERE HONORED AT A CEREMONY LAST MONTH BY THE IOTA CHAPTER OF PHI BETA KAPPA, THE NATIONS OLDEST ACADEMIC HONORARY SOCIETY, AND THE COLLEGE OF ARTS, SCIENCES AND ENGINEERING AT THE UNIVERSITY. THEY WERE SELECTED FOR THEIR SCHOLARLY ACHIEVEMENT, HUMANISTIC VALUES, CO-CURRICULAR ACTIVITY AND LEADERSHIP POTENTIAL.

MICHAUD, DAUGHTER OF DANNY AND MARY MICHAUD, IS A RESIDENT OF RUMFORD AND A GRADUATE OF MOUNTAIN VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL. EACH STUDENT RECEIVED A COPY OF BESIDE THE GENESEE, A PICTORIAL HISTORY OF THE UNIVERSITY.

Amanda Marie Michaud, a sophomore majoring in economics and mathematics at the University of Rochester, has been recognized as one of the top freshmen for the 2003-2004 academic year and has received the Iota Book Award.

She and 17 other students were honored at a ceremony last month by the Iota Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest academic honorary society, and the College of Arts, Sciences and Engineering at the university. They were selected for their scholarly achievement, humanistic values, co-curricular activity and leadership potential.

Michaud, daughter of Danny and Mary Michaud, is a resident of Rumford and a graduate of Mountain Valley High School. Each student received a copy of “Beside the Genesee,” a pictorial history of the university.



Kate Handville, a 2002 Franklin School graduate and daughter of Celeste Yakawonis of Turner and Scott Handville of Auburn, has been accepted into Andover College’s accounting program for the 2004-05 spring semester starting in January.
