Humor columnist Dave Barry, a fixture on the back page of the Sun Journal’s Perspective section, is taking 2005 off.

Last month, we asked readers for their thoughts on a replacement. The response was strong, and we’re impressed with the thoughtfulness of many of the replies.

The majority of writers, callers and e-mailers told us to keep Barry, running a collection of his best columns from previous years. We’re taking that advice.

But we will also, occasionally, introduce another humor columnist into the mix. Mark Bazer, whose work has appeared in the Chicago Tribune, Boston Globe, New York Post and other national newspapers, will join the lineup. Bazer is 29 and lives in Chicago.

We received many worthwhile ideas and appreciate the number of readers who shared their thoughts with us. Thanks for your insights.
