POLAND – Ernest L. “Roy” Manchester Jr., 65, of Poland, died Friday at his home.

He was born in Lewiston, June, 12, 1939, the son of Ernest and Katherine Coady Manchester Sr.

He graduated from Mechanic Falls High School in 1957.

He recently retired from Lee Family Trailer Sales in Windham.

In the 1960s and 70s, he owned Manchesters IGA in Mechanic Falls. He served in the Maine State Legislature and on the Mechanic Falls Town Council and had been a real estate broker.

He was a member and Trustee of the Mechanic Falls Congregational Church and also was President of Maple Grove Cemetery Association.

He also had served his country in the Army Reserves.

He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed gardening, travel, woodworking, fishing and hunting. He especially loved to have barbecues with his family and spend time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Jane Bryant Manchester, of Poland; sons, Charles of South Paris, John and his wife, Sue, of South Paris, Ernest “Chip” III of Mechanic Falls; a daughter, Katy and her husband, Chris Cilley, of Greene; five grandchildren, Jennifer, Curtis, Wayne, Lucas and Emily Manchester; four step-children, Ella-Jane Kugel and her husband, Rolf, Carol Bryant, Gary Bryant and his wife, Twyla, and Ryan Bryant; nine step-grandchildren; and six step-great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by a sister, Kathleen Schwabe; and a brother, Walter.
