RUMFORD – Gilbert P. Stevens, 91, of South Paris, died Saturday, Dec. 25, at the Rumford Community Home.

He was born in South Paris on Nov. 7, 1913, the second son of Albert French and Grace Murch Stevens.

He attended South Paris Grammar Schools and graduated from the Paris High School in 1932.

He also graduated from the Maine School of Commerce in Auburn with a degree in Accounting.

He worked at local mills as a bookkeeper for such establishments as Paris Tanning Co. and Paris Sled Factory. He was a deputy Sheriff under four different sheriffs in Oxford County. He retired as a State of Maine Auditor.

He served our country in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Corporal. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and received a Bronze Star for his heroism. He held many offices locally in the Masons, Paris Fire Dept., American Legion, and VFW.

He is survived by several cousins.

He was predeceased by an older brother, J. Murch Stevens; and his parents.
