LIVERMORE FALLS – Directors of SAD 36 have extended the contract of Superintendent Terry Despres another year, until 2009.

The action was taken at a recent meeting of the board when Despres’ salary was set at $88,810 for 2005-2006, up from $83,000 this year.

The board also approved of the appointment of Chris Beaudoin as the clinical director/licensed social worker for the new day treatment program for students who have behavioral needs. Beaudoin is a graduate of the University of Maine at Farmington, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in history. He also has a master’s degree in social work from the University of New England.

Wendy Moreau, special services coordinator, said the Gray-New Gloucester system helped with the interviews for the position, and that both Rumford and SAD 39 have helped in planning the center. The center will open in January at the Cedar Street Complex, serving students in kindergarten through grade 5.

One teacher and two educational technicians will be working in the program, in which Winthrop, Farmington and Jay have expressed interest. The center will be offered regionally.

In other business, the resignation of Sylvia Morris as a food service worker was announced, to be effective Jan. 3. The board expressed its appreciation to her for her many years of service. The board reviewed job descriptions for food service worker and for driver/courier, both in the nutrition program. Job descriptions for team leader and food service worker were approved Nov. 18.

Receiving a first reading was an Adult Education Program policy, which sets admission and attendance requirements, credit requirements and fees.

Bill Biliouris will coach indoor track and Jack Richards will coach boys freshmen basketball.

Despres reported that the state has placed a 17 percent cap on the number of special education students in a system. SAD 36 is currently at 14 percent, he said. He also noted that a review of the current year’s financial data in December found the system’s budget 3 percent better than projections.

Principal Rod Wright announced that teacher Gladys Russell had received a $960 grant for hands-on material for biology.

The single-run bus schedules are still being adjusted, Despres reported. An in-town run has been incorporated, another driver is being trained, and bus times are being equalized, he said.

The board authorized the Construction Committee to take the necessary steps for an architectural review, and M.E. McCormick was hired to do a complete facilities review.

The board approved the trip to Montreal April 15-16 for French and Spanish students.
