PARIS – Dog owners will this year receive letters to remind them that license fees are due.
On Monday, the Paris Board of Selectmen approved a form letter that will be sent out in the new year.
“Have we done this in the past?” Selectman Raymond Glover asked before the board voted.
Interim Town Manager Elisa Whiteley said the letters are new. Glover was told the town used to simply place notices in local newspapers when dog licenses were due.
“But then not everybody gets the paper,” Selectman Gerald Kilgore said.
Whiteley said dog licenses must be purchased by Jan. 31.
According to the 2002-2003 annual town report, after that date residents are charged the normal fees of $10 for each dog that is not neutered and $3 for each neutered dog, plus late fees. The late fees are $15 or $25, depending on whether the animal control officer has to issue a warrant.
The town report said 131 unneutered dogs and 409 neutered dogs were registered as of June 30, 2003.
