AUBURN – Gloria B. Simard, 79, of Huston Avenue in Auburn, died at her home Tuesday morning, Dec. 28, with her husband and daughter by her side.

She was born in Brockton, Mass. on May 9, 1925, a daughter of Florence (Gagnon) and Ernest LaCouture Sr. and was the wife of Paul R. Simard whom she married on May 25, 1946.

Her family moved to Maine in 1941 and has lived in the area since that time.

She worked at Hood’s, Lown Shoe as a payroll clerk, J.C. Penney’s, WT Grant’s and was also at one point in her life a volunteer at St. Mary’s Hospital.

She was also a life member of St. Anne’s Society at St. Louis Church in New Auburn.

She was an avid homemaker all of her life. She enjoyed a good card game, reading, shopping, game shows and crossword puzzles. She especially enjoyed summertime trips to the ocean, which included that long awaited lobster dinner, fall foliage rides, her many rides for lunch at Cole Farms, and spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her husband, Paul R. Simard; a daughter, Sandra Nyberg and her husband, Peter Letourneau; a son, Ronald Simard and his wife, Ann, all of Auburn; four grandchildren, Jennifer Nyberg Kimball and husband, Leonard, of Auburn, Thomas Nyberg and fiance, Jaime Geel, of Columbia Falls, Michael Simard and wife, Michele, and Kathy Simard and fianc, Derek Folsom, all of New Jersey; six great-grandchildren, Darian Simard, Brendan Simard, Mia Simard, Jalen Folsom, Aidan Folsom and Dylan Nyberg.

She was predeceased by her parents, Florence and Ernest LaCouture Sr.; and two brothers, Earl LaCouture and Ernest LaCouture Jr.
