LACONIA, N.H. (AP) – The state has ordered contractors to stop building a 171-home project, saying the work has sent contamination into Lake Winnipesaukee.

The order affects Akwa Vista, a gated community on Brickyard Mountain. The state said Atom Contracting of Bedford has not followed adequate erosion control, allowing a plume of sediment to flow into the lake.

The company said it has done nothing wrong.
