LIVERMORE FALLS – A tractor-trailer knocked down a utility pole Friday, causing the wires to the traffic light to fall across the southbound lane on Main Street.
Police called in Livermore Falls firefighters to keep the traffic moving about 5 p.m. Christmas Eve.
The traffic signal at the intersection of Bridge Street on Route 4 was still attached to the top part of the pole. The impact had snapped the pole in two.
Mustaf Mohamed, 26, of Clarkston, Ga., and his passenger, Kano Muhamed, 29, address unknown, were not injured in the accident, Livermore Falls Police Chief Ernest Steward Jr. said.
The truck was hauling paper goods from Fontana, Calif., Steward said.
Livermore Falls police officer Ken Bryant estimated the damage to the tractor-trailer at $2,000, and $1,500 to the light, the chief said.
Firefighters were on the scene for more than 2 hours.
The traffic signal was up Monday morning, but the signal lights were still blinking, awaiting repair.
