SALEM — Jason Allen scored 14 points to lead Winthrop to a 54-48 victory over Mt. Abram in boys’ varsity basketball action Wednesday.

Mike Gingris added 12 points for the Ramblers who improve to 2-3 with the victory.

Jordan Norton scored 15 points for the Roadrunners (4-1).

Valley 70, Buckfield 47

BUCKFIELD – Travis Hovey poured in 18 points and led a group of four players who reached double digits as Valley rolled past Buckfield 70-47 in a boys’ basketball matchup Wednesday.

Mark Hyland and Eric Hatfield chipped in for the Cavaliers (6-0) with 16 points apiece, while Nate Gilbert added 10.

Jamie Henderson led the Bucks (3-3) with a 16-point performance, while Jeff Bennett contributed with 11. Valley jumped out to a healthy 40-22 lead at the half and was never seriously challenged.

Girls’ basketball

Valley 43, Buckfield 33

BUCKFIELD – Kristin Baker poured in a game-high 17 points to lead Valley to a 3-2 victory over Buckfield in EWC girls’ basketball action Wednesday.

Jeridee Fitzmaurice chipped in for the Cavaliers (3-2) with 13 points.

Alyssa Henderson led the Bucks (2-4) with a 10-point performance, while Tiffany Dunn added seven. Valley held a commanding 29-15 advantage at the break and coasted to the win.
