TOPSHAM – The Coastal Youth Orchestra will hold auditions for students who would like to join. The auditions will begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Mount Ararat High School.

The orchestra is accepting string students of all levels. It also needs advanced students who play the oboe, clarinet or French horn for its chamber orchestra.

The orchestra has three ensembles; the Fiddleheads, the Coastal String Ensemble and the Coastal Chamber Orchestra. Nancy Roderick of Brunswick conducts the Fiddleheads, a beginning string orchestra, and the Coastal String Ensemble, an intermediate string group. The Coastal Chamber Orchestra is the most advanced group, which includes winds, brass and percussion students. It’s directed by Karla Kelley.

The orchestra was established in 2002. One goal is to provide a fun, stimulating and challenging setting in which young students can develop their musical skills and learn about performance and music literature.

To schedule an audition appointment or obtain more information, people may contact Roderick at 729-5156 or e-mail nancyrod@gwi.net.
