BETHEL – A two-car crash at Parkway and Route 2 early Wednesday evening snarled westbound traffic for about 45 minutes.

“It was the most inopportune time for two people to have a fender-bender,” Bethel Patrolman Randall Baker said.

About 4:45 p.m., a 1999 Ford sedan driven by Gerard Kitt, 50, of Woodsville, N.Y., and a 2004 Nissan pickup truck driven by Steven Terhune, 32, of Portsmouth, N.H., collided.

Baker said it appeared that Kitt, who was driving west on Route 2, failed to see Terhune’s truck go from Parkway onto Route 2.

Parkway is a short connector road between Route 2 and Route 26.

State police, Baker and Bethel firefighters responded to the crash, which occurred when many people were leaving Sunday River Ski Resort.

Westbound traffic was backed up three miles to Sunday River Road until about 5:45 p.m.

Baker said Kitt’s car sustained an estimated $10,000 to $12,000 damage and Terhune’s truck sustained about $1,000 in damage. There were no injuries. Gaudreau’s Repairs of Bethel towed both vehicles.
