LEWISTON – Dellbert C. Ray Sr., 77, of Minot, died Dec. 31, with his loving family at his side at Central Maine Medical Center.

Born in Norway, March 13, 1927, he was the son of Oren E. and Edith J. Walker Ray Sr. He attended schools in New Gloucester.

He served in the U.S. Army for several years and was a Veteran of World War II and was the last living charter member of AMVETS Post 6.

On June 10, 1972, he married the love of his life, Mary Lunella Hotham, and they spent 38 wonderful years together.

One of his final wishes was to visit his sister, Gail Franzen, who was courageously fighting for her life a few floors above him in the hospital. His wish was granted by the loving nurses of CMMC before she passed away 5 hours before him.

He worked for the Town of New Gloucester for many years before retiring. Among his favorite enjoyments was spending time with family and friends, gardening, keeping his lawn beautiful, horseshoes, dancing and wrestling.

He was loved and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary, of Minot, and his six sons, Stephen Ray of Poland, Eric Ray of New Gloucester, Douglas Ray of Washington State, Gregory Ray of New Gloucester, Daniel Carr of Oxford, and Dellbert Ray Jr. of Minot; ten daughters, Andrea Foster of Poland, Melody Danforth of Wales, Melinda Meldrum of New Vineyard, Melissa of Lyman, Rose Rowe of Oxford, Stephanie Walker of Mechanic Falls, Bonnie Carr of Mechanic Falls, Kathleen Boynton of Mechanic Falls, Penny Dion of Lewiston, and Pam Sampson of Lewiston; two sisters, Edith Jordan of Auburn, and Joan McCarthy of New Gloucester; one brother, Donald Ray Sr. of New Gloucester; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by three sons, David Ray, Glen Carr, and William Carr; three brothers, Oren Ray Jr., George Ray, and Melcon Ray; two sisters, Leonora Dixon and Gail Franzen; and his parents.
