The Lewiston Maineiacs have been silent on the trade front, electing to see how things play out among the rest of the league’s teams first.
Until Monday, there hadn’t been much to watch.
The season’s first big move may have shifted the trading period into gear, as Drummondville sent starting netminder Sylvain Michaud to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies along with a fifth-round pick in the 2006 entry draft in exchange for the Huskies’ starting netminder Philippe Roberge, defenseman Jean-Philippe Cote and a sixth-round draft pick at the 2005 draft.
Through 29 games, the 20-year-old Michaud (19 by league rules) had a save percentage of .909, a goals-against-average of 2.71 and an 11-12-3 record.
In his three previous seasons with the Voltigeurs, the New York Islanders’ draft pick played in 101 games, won 27, and nearly single-handedly lifted his team into the playoffs last season.
Roberge, meanwhile, inherited the reins at Rouyn-Noranda this season and had mixed success, going 6-7-5 with a .903 save percentage and a 3.29 GAA.
Cote is an 18-year-old defenseman with nine points, a plus-three rating and 29 penalty minutes.
Drummondville has been active this trading period and has been involved in four of the six deals approved by the league.
In a separate deal Monday, Val d’Or sent right wing Austin Corredato, who played last year in the Ontario Hockey League, to Halifax in exchange for a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft.
Corredato, 19, has six goals and seven assists to go along with 42 penalty minutes.
