MIAMI – For the first time in nearly a month, the Miami Heat failed to win.

Ray Allen scored 35 points, Rashard Lewis added 17 points and 13 rebounds and the Seattle SuperSonics snapped the Heat’s franchise-record 14-game winning streak Monday night with a 98-96 victory.

With the score 98-95, Lewis fouled Miami’s Eddie Jones on a 3-point try with 0.4 seconds remaining. But the Heat guard – a 78.7 percent shooter entering the game – connected on only one of three free-throw attempts, the last of which he missed intentionally.

The loss denied Miami’s bid for the NBA’s first 15-game winning streak since O’Neal’s Los Angeles Lakers won 19 straight in the 2000 season, helping propel them to the first of their three consecutive titles.

Raptors 105, Magic 94

TORONTO – Chris Bosh tied his career-high with 25 points and Morris Peterson scored a season-high 21 to lead the Toronto Raptors to a 105-94 victory over the slumping Orlando Magic on Monday night.

Bosh also had 12 rebounds for the Raptors, who ended a three-game losing kid. The second-year forward matched his career-high for points set Nov. 16, 2003 against Houston.

Steve Francis had 19 points for the Magic.

Cavaliers 94, Bobcats 83

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Unhampered by a plastic mask he wore to protect his broken left cheek, LeBron James scored 26 points Monday night to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to a 94-83 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats.

If it bothered him, it didn’t show. James shot 11-of-19 and added eight rebounds and six assists.

Grizzlies 92, Jazz 82

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Pau Gasol scored 25 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and keyed a third-quarter rally Monday night as the Memphis Grizzlies won their season-high fourth consecutive game with a 92-82 victory over the Utah Jazz.

Gasol, who had 17 points in the third quarter as Memphis took the lead, was 9-of-15 from the field to help send the Jazz to their sixth straight loss. Utah has dropped nine of its last 10.

Pistons 87, Bulls 80

CHICAGO – Richard Hamilton scored 28 points, 20 in the second half, and Ben Wallace had 16 rebounds and seven points to lead the Detroit Pistons to a 87-80 victory over the Chicago Bulls.

Tayshaun Prince added 15 points and Rasheed Wallace scored 10 points for the Pistons, who have won five of their last six games.

Clippers 102, Nuggets 98

DENVER – Corey Maggette had 33 points and 11 rebounds, and Rick Brunson hit a key 3-pointer with 21 seconds left to lift the Los Angeles Clippers to a 102-98 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday night.

The Clippers got off to a great start, had a miserable third quarter and hit just enough shots down the stretch.

to win for third time in four games after a 1-7 stretch. Elton Brand added 21 points and 13 rebounds, and Brunson finished with 18 points and eight rebounds.

The Nuggets did their best without injured center Marcus Camby (back) and Greg Buckner (groin) for the second straight game, turning what appeared to be a rout in the first half into a close game by tightening up on both ends.

Nene had 20 points and 13 rebounds with Kenyon Martin in foul trouble most of the game, and Carmelo Anthony had 21 points, though he was just 6-for-21 from the field. Andre Miller added 17 points, but he spent most of the fourth quarter watching from the bench.

Despite a miserable first half, Denver was still within 60-50 thanks in part to Miller’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer from three steps inside halfcourt.

Then everything the Nuggets did wrong in the first half seemed to go right in the second – until the end.

Working the ball for open shots in and around the lane, Denver made five of its first nine to chip away at the Clippers’ lead. The Nuggets finally got the lead – their first of the game – with 2:42 left in the third quarter, going up 70-69 on Anthony’s two free throws.

The offense was good, but where Denver really turned things around was on defense.

After allowing Los Angeles deep post position and plenty of lanes to the rim in the first half, the Nuggets closed everything down in the third quarter. The Clippers missed 12 of their first 13 shots and didn’t have a field goal until Brand scored on a putback with 3:42 left to trail 76-74.

The Nuggets stayed close through most of the fourth quarter before Brunson hit a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Clippers up 96-92.

But it was surprise that the Nuggets even had a chance with the way they played in the first half.

The Nuggets settled for jumpers and forced it up when they did go inside, trailing by as much as 18 points. Anthony was the main culprit, firing up long jumpers early and forcing the ball into double and triple teams after that, managing five points on 2-of-10 shooting.

Defense was a problem for the Nuggets, too.

Brand had 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and Maggette slashed his way for 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Then again, no one was missing much for Los Angeles. The Clippers made 25 of 41 shots and had 11 points off offensive rebounds to lead by 10 at halftime.

Notes: The Nuggets raised more than $14,000 from fans and Kroenke Enterprises employees Friday night for tsunami relief in South Asia. … Brunson had some fun with scouts sitting along the baseline in the third quarter, yelling out “That was double-drag down” after a whistle.
