MEXICO – Rob Gaudette, owner of Aromas Restaurant, wants to help the victims of the tsunami and to offer local people a chance to help out as well.
On Jan. 21 and 22, at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. each evening, Gaudette will serve an Asian buffet, by reservation only, at $10 per person with a donation of bottled water, dry noodles or dry rice.
“We want to kick in with the effort for this huge disaster,” he said.
All labor on those two nights will be donated. Gaudette estimated that about 75 percent of the meal costs will go to the American Red Cross’s tsunami relief effort, and perhaps even more. He is looking for area businesses to donate food for the suppers as well as paper plates and other paper products. Bottled water, rice and noodles will be gathered and sent by way of the Red Cross as well.
He said he decided he wanted to do something to help a couple of days after the tsunami wave hit the coasts of many countries bordering the Indian Ocean.
Besides the donations expected to be made during the two Asian buffet nights, Gaudette said he will accept water, rice and noodle donations at his 345 Main St. business. He will also accept checks made out to the American Red Cross.
He plans to gather all donations and present them to an American Red Cross representative during one of the two buffet nights.
The buffet will include such foods as spicy Asian soup, spring rolls and Asian chicken.
To attend the fund-raising buffets, people must make reservations by Monday, Jan. 17, by calling 369-0777.
