Dear Sun Spots: You always seem to be able to find the answer to everything. Perhaps you can help with these. On one production of “Regis and Kelly,” there was mention of Regis being with his son and that Kelly said his son looked like Regis. Was Regis married before his marriage to Joy? He always mentions his two daughters but I didn’t know he had another child. Also, Shannon Moss of WCSH Channel 6 news has such long, curly hair. Is her hair natural or is it permed? I think she’s adorable. Is she married? – No Name, Oxford.
Answer: In regards to your first question, Regis Philbin was previously married to actress Catherine “Kay” Faylan. They married in 1955 and divorced in 1968. They had two children, daughter, Amy, born in 1961, and son, Daniel, born in 1967, who incidentally was born with missing vertebrae and leg muscles and grew up at Angel View Crippled Children’s Foundation in California. Daniel now holds a “high-level” position at the Pentagon. Regis married his current wife, Joy Senese, in 1970. He met her while working as a sidekick on the “Joey Bishop Show”; she was Bishop’s assistant. Regis and Joy do have two daughters, Joanna and Jennifer “JJ”. They have a Manhattan apartment and a home in Greenwich, Conn.
In regards to your second question, Sun Spots contacted Shannon Moss, who was flattered by your compliment. She said that her hair is naturally curly, like her maternal grandmother’s. She also said that her hair has been controversial since the station gets letters, e-mails and phone calls from people saying that they love it or they hate it. She actually got a letter from a woman who told her to get a new hairstyle, that her hair was too big and fuzzy. As for Shannon’s marital status, she mentioned that a New Year’s Eve wedding has been planned. Congratulations, Shannon!
Shannon’s WCSH 6 Web site bio at www.WCSH6.com states: “Shannon is well-known throughout Maine for her “Get Out Alive” safety series. Whether it be entering a burning building, getting drenched in icy cold water or learning self-defense techniques, Shannon’s hands-on approach to reporting is helping to keep Mainers safe. Shannon holds a degree in journalism from the University of Rhode Island. Shannon loves her job and says, ‘Whether it’s breaking news, the story of the day or a feature piece, it should be accurate, impartial and, if we’ve done our job right, make a difference in someone’s life.’ On vacation, Shannon loves to travel and in her spare time likes to run, go horseback riding and go to the movies.”
