FARMINGTON – Agnes Webber Tyler, 87, of Farmington, passed away at her home on Jan. 5, surrounded by her loving daughter and son-in-law and other caretakers, after a yearlong struggle with cancer.

She was born on Aug. 29, 1917, in Piercefield, N.Y., the daughter of Claude and Grace (Norton) Webber. She was educated in Farmington schools and graduated from Bliss Business College.

During World War II, as she waited for her high school sweetheart, Bob Tyler, who was serving in the Pacific, to return, she was a legal secretary for Holman’s Law Office in Farmington.

After his return, they married and moved to Boston, where she worked as a secretary while he attended art school. Upon the completion of his education and the birth of their first child, Tim, they moved back to Farmington where they enjoyed 54 years of marriage.

Over the years, she was a member of many organizations where she held various offices and was a member of the Old South Congregational Church. She was chairman of the Friends of Cutler Memorial Library Group, as well as a corporator of the Farmington Monday Club, where she was publicity chairman for many years. She was also a member of the Farmington Historical Society and served on the Board of Directors for the Pierce House.

She was co-founder and second president of the Mt. Blue Area Garden Club and held various offices, including a long period as awards chairman, receiving several honors for the club. She was also a faithful worker tending Farmington’s public gardens and served on the plant sale. She was honored with a state life membership by the Garden Club in recognition of her years of service. She volunteered her time at Titcomb Ski Slope and also as a troop leader for her daughter’s Girl Scout Troop.

Her favorite pastimes were playing bridge with her friends, gardening, picnics, Sunday drives to various destinations in Maine and watching sunsets. She cherished the time spent with family and friends at her summer home on Peaks Island.

She is survived by her daughter, Victoria “Tory” Tyler-Millar and husband, Mark; granddaughters, Heidi and Marianna Millar of Cape Elizabeth; daughter-in-law, Michele Tyler of Farmington; grandsons, Michael Tyler and wife, Bernadette, of Torrington, Conn., Jonathan Tyler and wife, Lisa, of Wallingford, Conn., and Joshua Tyler of Brighton, Mass.; and two great-grandchildren, Ali and Ashton Tyler.

She was predeceased by her husband, C. Robert Tyler, and son, Charles R. “Tim” Tyler Jr.
