WEST SUMNER – Albert Bisbee Eastman, 90, of Front Street, West Sumner, died at his residence on Tuesday, Jan. 4.

He was born in Manchester, N.H., on Sept. 15, 1914, the son of Fred and Ruth (Bowley) Eastman and had been educated in the Augusta and Gardiner schools. He had lived in Sumner for the past 78 years.

In his early years, he worked at the South Portland Shipyard and later worked at A.C. Lawrence Tannery for 15 years, before his retirement and as an orchardist, he owned and operated Bisbee Orchards.

He was a member of the Granite Lodge 182 A.F. and A.M. of West Paris, Mountain View Chapter O.E.S. 197 of Buckfield, a former member of the Sumner Planning Board, former member of the Maine Apple Growers Association and a member of the Sumner Volunteer Fire Department. He had also been the treasurer of the West Sumner Universalist Church.

He loved his orchards, woodworking, going for rides, Sunday dinners and will be especially remembered for his “Saturday night suppers.” His family was his life and he would do anything for anyone.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Irene Eastman of West Sumner; one daughter, Joan Campbell and her husband, Fred, of West Sumner; one son, Thaine Eastman and his wife, Gail, of West Sumner; three sisters, Olive Harris of Pennsylvania, Elizabeth Childs of Peru, and Ruth Lieberman of Texas; one brother, Richard Page and his wife, Corrine, of North Conway, N.H.; one sister-in-law, Jody Eastman of Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Ricky and Donna Kangas of Buckfield, Stephen and Kelly Kangas of West Sumner, Jason and Kim Eastman of West Sumner, Troy and Julie Eastman of West Sumner, Shane and Michelle Moffett of Livermore Falls, Bruce and Jennifer Campbell of South Paris, Shane and Dianne Slicer of Waterford, and Darlene Campbell of Waterford; 17 great-grandchildren; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Edwin Eastman and Arthur Eastman.
